Independent Newspaper Highlights Our Convener’s Vision Ahead of Mental Health Conference 3.0
As excitement built toward the third edition of the Mental Health Conference, Independent Newspaper Nigeria beautifully captured the essence of this year’s theme and the heart behind our mission in an article written by Victoria Ojugbana.
The feature shed light on the passion and vision of our Convener, Dr. Maymunah Yusuf-Kadiri, a leading psychiatrist and mental health advocate, who described this year’s gathering as “a movement, an awakening to the power of truth-telling, healing, and transformation.”
Held on Friday, October 3rd, 2025, at Alliance Française de Lagos/Mike Adenuga Complex, Ikoyi, Lagos, the Mental Health Conference 3.0 brought together voices from across Nigeria and beyond, uniting individuals, families, organizations, and communities under the theme “Trauma: What’s Your Story?”
As highlighted in Ojugbana’s piece, Dr. Maymunah emphasized that for too long, trauma has been the “silent architect of broken homes, fractured workplaces, and wounded communities.”
She reminded us that pain left unspoken doesn’t disappear. “It festers and grows roots, shaping lives in silence.” This is why the conference continues to serve as a safe space for truth, storytelling, and collective healing.
The report also captured the rich conversations planned for this year’s edition, addressing vital but often-avoided topics such as:
- Intergenerational trauma – the inherited pain carried through families
- Workplace stress and burnout – the quiet struggles of many professionals
- Post-traumatic growth – finding resilience through pain
- Cultural silence – breaking the long-held belief that suffering must be endured quietly
Dr. Maymunah reminded participants and readers alike that:
“Trauma is not just about what happened to you, but about what you continue to carry. Healing begins when we tell our stories and stop letting silence hold us hostage.”
These words perfectly reflect the spirit of Mental Health Conference 3.0, not just as an event but as a platform for reflection, participation, and transformation. Through storytelling, we reclaim our voices, connect with one another, and begin the journey from hurt to healing.
We are deeply grateful to Independent Newspaper Nigeria and Victoria Ojugbana for spotlighting this year’s theme and helping us amplify our message:
Your story matters. Your scars matter. And most of all, your healing matters.
